The transformation of Dubai from a little known fishing village on a creek in the Arabian Gulf to a gleaming metropolis bursting with skyscrapers, golf courses, shopping malls and luxury hotels is nothing short of amazing.

The success of Dubai is in no small measure due to the foresight of its ruling family, the Al Maktoums, who have had the perspicacity to recognize the need to develop their country so as to ensure its prosperity well after Dubai's meagre oil and gas reserves have run out.
